Indiana Compliance Officers Roundtable Spring Event Recap

Compliance officers and in-house counsel for Indiana companies gathered this month for an educational presentation, informal group dialogue, networking reception and tour as part of the Indiana Compliance Officers Roundtable.
At the June meeting, held at Finish Line’s Customer Central in Indianapolis, compliance officers and in-house counsel from various sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, utilities, agriculture and retail had a lively discussion about current issues focusing on "Best Practices for Dealing with Cybercrime: Reducing Risks and Increasing Readiness." As these risks continue to be front of mind for companies, planning and acting before a breach or other data security issue arises can be important. Areas for preparation can include:
  • Preparing for and mitigating risk related to data and compliance issues;
  • Evaluating data security and privacy obligations in the transactional due diligence process;
  • Evaluating insurance coverage at renewal and identifying coverage gaps for data breaches and other technology-related events;
  • Building or modifying information security and privacy programs;
  • Implementing "Privacy By Design;"
  • Analyzing current and/or planned practices against business, regulatory and legal frameworks;
  • Negotiating contracts with service providers to require critical business information to be protected appropriately; and
  • Addressing issues related to international data transfer.
Ice Miller's Data Security and Privacy practice groupDiscussion was led by Chris Eck, senior VP, general counsel and corporate secretary of Finish Line; Stephen Reynolds, Nicholas Merker, Nicholas Reuhs, Kimberly Metzger and Sid Bose of Ice Miller; Chris Giovino with Aon Risk Solutions and Jim Watson with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The group also had the opportunity to tour Finish Line's distribution center, call center and lab store.
A fall 2015 educational and networking event is also being planned. The fall Indiana Compliance Officers Roundtable event is expected to include one hour of Indiana Continuing Legal Education Ethics credit.
As regulations become more complex and government enforcement increases, Indiana companies and organizations are creating or enhancing their compliance functions. Likewise, internal compliance organizations are growing and expanding the scope of their responsibilities. The Indiana Compliance Officers Roundtable provides a forum for in-house compliance personnel to share best practices and get acquainted with others in the compliance field.
The Government Enforcement, Internal Investigations and Corporate Compliance practice group at Ice Miller provides administrative and organizational support for the roundtable. Ice Miller also maintains a contact and email list for those companies and organizations participating in the roundtable. There is no charge to participate.
To learn more about the roundtable and to add your company or organization to the email list for updates and other information supporting compliance personnel and in-house counsel, please contact Ice Miller's Lu Carole West, Dale Stackhouse or Matt Fornshell.
To learn more about Ice Miller’s Data Security and Privacy practice group, please contact Nicholas Merker, Stephen Reynolds, Kimberly Metzger or Nicholas Reuhs.
Information about the fall 2015 roundtable and other events will be provided to the roundtable mailing list.
