Ice Miller Co-Hosts Sixth Annual DuPage Outlook Event with Illinois Governor Rauner as Keynote
Ice Miller’s Chicago/DuPage County offices were once again pleased to cohost the sixth annual DuPage County Regional Business Outlook event with the economic development group Choose DuPage and Mesirow Financial.
This year’s event was emceed by Dave Hight
, managing partner of Ice Miller’s DuPage County office, and featured Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner as the keynote speaker. Gov. Rauner provided framework for driving growth and economic development in DuPage County and statewide, encouraging the business community to get involved and support the systematic changes necessary to move the state forward.
Nearly 1,000 of the region’s business and civic leaders welcomed the governor to share his vision for the future of the state, which centered around creating jobs and laying the foundation for sustainable economic development.
As in previous years, Diane Swonk, Mesirow Financial’s chief economist and senior managing director, provided a glimpse into her views on the national economy amidst a period of sluggish growth. Discussing global macroeconomic trends, Ms. Swonk advised the crowd to remain cautiously optimistic as the economy moves further into 2015 and to expect real GDP growth to rise at 2.5% in 2015.
DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin highlighted recent economic development wins and collaboration between regional partners in order to grow and retain business in DuPage. John Calamos, CEO and global C-CIO of Calamos Investments, hosted a Q&A with the governor that touched on the challenges facing the state and allowed the governor to touch on his recommended solutions.
