Energize and Disrupt at the #IoTCivicHack

Did you know Indiana ranks first in the nation in duck production? Or that 80% of the U.S. population is within 24 hours of Indiana? Or that Indiana is considered the most manufacturing-intensive state in the nation?

Here in Indiana, we make more, we grow more, and we move more.

That was the backdrop against which over 450 coders, developers, architects, and everyone in between teamed up to disrupt and energize Indiana’s manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics economies at the IoT Civic Hackathon on April 21 at Launch Fishers. Tasked with harnessing the Internet of Things, teams set out to innovate, hack, build, and develop solutions to better Indiana’s economy, especially in the manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics sectors. Teams had less than 24 hours to dream up, build, and demonstrate their creations as they tried to win prize purses in various categories.

This civic hackathon presented a unique opportunity to collaborate between the private and public sectors and showcased the promise that the Internet of Things has to offer to Indiana’s economy. The full benefits of the Internet of Things are yet to be seen, but ultimately, civic hackathons like these embody a new approach of energizing and disrupting to make, move, and grow more in Indiana.
