Ice Miller’s Columbus Office to Volunteer for Community Shelter Board for Day of Service
Ice Miller’s Columbus office will be volunteering with Community Shelter Board on October 6, from 1-4 p.m. Community Shelter Board responds to homelessness in Columbus through several community initiatives including homelessness prevention programming, shelter services, case management, street outreach and affordable housing assistance.
Community Shelter Board uses a model called the “Rebuilding Lives Plan” to address a full scope of homelessness issues, which includes providing resources, moving people from crisis to stability and advocating for policies to end homelessness. According to Community Shelter Board, over the past three years, homeless shelter use has increased by 63% among families and 16% among single men and women.
Ice Miller’s team in Columbus will assist the organization by building and decorating a puppet house for children to use at the shelter, among other tasks. Volunteers at Community Shelter Board may also assist in creating “going home learning boxes,” helping families transition to new homes; cleaning and organizing donated goods; and tending to the shelter’s Garden of Hope, which produced 500 pounds of food in 2015 to feed those at the shelter.
