Performance Assessment Network (pan) is the leading provider of on-line administration and delivery of professional assessment and testing instruments. pan services more than 5,000 customers in over 20 countries, in a variety of industries including health care, education and government. Several of the world's largest pre-employment and certification testing companies rely on pan for their assessment testing needs.
Co-founders David Pfenninger and Doug Cole, who literally started the company in Doug's basement in 2000, quickly turned to Ice Miller for assistance in protecting important intellectual property, raising necessary working capital and establishing appropriate employment practices and benefits.
Through the years, and in spite of the downturn of the technology sector in the early 2000's, pan experienced rapid growth and made news when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) selected pan after September 11, 2001 to provide on-line, pre-employment assessments for all airport TSA personnel nationwide.
This success caught the attention of St. Louis-based TALX Corporation, a leading provider of human resource services, in late 2005. The purchase of pan by TALX was completed in April 2006 allowing its owners (including many angel investors from Central Indiana) to enjoy an impressive return on their investment.
pan continues to operate from its headquarters in Carmel, IN. Many of its early financial supporters have moved on to provide critical early stage capital to other growing Indiana businesses.
