Getting Involved
Being an Ice Miller lawyer is much more than hard work, it is being part of a firm where people are dedicated to each other and to their community. We look forward to our clerks and to the energy they bring. As part of the summer, we host activities designed to help you get to know us better and for us to better know you. In past summers, we have attended festivals and concerts and have participated in dinners at attorneys' homes. One of the highlights of the summer program is spending Carburation Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Also, second year clerks and their spouses attend a retreat where we have panel discussions on the culture, history and future of the Firm and a closed door Q & A session with a group of young lawyers who are not shy about answering all of your questions, no holds barred! The retreat weekend gives you a chance to interact with the members of the Personnel Committee in a casual, relaxed setting.
You will be given a "lunch money" allowance to encourage you to take lawyers to lunch. This gives you the opportunity to mix, mingle and gather information on the Firm and its practices.
Ice Miller prides itself on its community involvement and believes that community involvement is essential to our development and growth. Accordingly, we encourage our lawyers and staff members to be involved in organizations in which they have an interest.
In order to expose our clerks to this facet of Ice Miller, each clerk class chooses a volunteer activity that, as a class, all clerks devote a day to during the summer. Traditionally, this is one of the best activities of the summer. The clerk class independently chooses the organization and the activity, and handles all of the details involved in the planning.
Past clerk classes have painted homes in low income neighborhoods, cleaned city parks, worked at a local food bank, painted playground equipment at a rehabilitation center and cleaned a house where families of ill children live.
Our only requirements are that the entire group work together and that you take a day off through the week to do it (not a bad requirement, huh?). Additionally, during the course of the summer, the Firm typically has a community activity at which clerks have the opportunity to work with our lawyers, staff, and their respective families.
