Effective Date Extended for Normal Retirement Regulations
The Internal Revenue Service issued Notice 2008-98
on October 10, 2008 to provide that the IRS and Treasury intend to extend the date when governmental plans must comply with final regulations concerning distributions from a pension plan upon attainment of normal retirement age. The extension will change the effective date to plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2011, giving governmental plans two additional years to comply with the normal retirement age regulations.
