Planning for the Next Tremor
Risk Management Steps to Consider for Protecting Your Business

Early this morning parts of the Midwest were reminded that natural disasters can occur at any time and without warning.  Fortunately, the effects of the earthquake appear to be minimal.  There have been no reports of personal injury or significant property damage.  Businesses and schools are open and going about their activities as usual with perhaps a common water cooler conversation topic.  Utilities, such as gas, electricity, and water, have continued without interruption.  This is not always the case.  As you will recall, in the last few years, many central Indiana businesses have been devastated by  tornados and straight line winds.  Businesses lost records in that tornado and several were forced to immediately relocate.   Today's earthquake reminds us of the need for companies to be proactive in taking steps to ensure that in the event of a natural disaster, the personal and economic losses which a business and its employees suffer are minimized.  Because the severity and duration of natural disasters may vary greatly, there is no one plan that can be followed to ensure these goals.
