Will Suspending Benefits Disqualify Your Multiemployer Pension Plan? Avoid Potential Disqualification After Heinz

Many multiemployer pension plans provide that retirement benefits will be suspended if the retiree becomes reemployed. Recent legal changes require plan trustees to review suspension of benefits provisions in their plans and may require additional action to avoid plan disqualification. The IRS recently issued guidance that explains when an amendment to a suspension of benefits provision may create a plan disqualification problem and the steps that trustees must take in order to retroactively correct the problem.  Learn more.
