| Venture dollars for Indiana life sciences companies are still few, but the flow of deals is picking up. Nine Hoosier companies scored investments totaling $10.4 million during the first six months of the year, according to IBJ research and data from Cleveland-based BioEnterprise, a life sciences business development group. |

| A number of large U.S. companies have embraced Democratic proposals to end some tax breaks on overseas profits, the first opening in what had been unified opposition to ending the controversial provisions. In a letter to Senate leaders, 22 firms threw their support behind a recent proposal from Sen. Max Baucus (D., Mont.) that would end certain small tax breaks on overseas income, raising $11.5 billion over 10 years to pay for tax incentives the firms are eager to maintain, including the research tax credit. |

| The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is divided over when to seize pay from executives who unwittingly benefit from accounting fraud, a rift that has triggered internal disagreements over cases, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter. As recently as May, the SEC's enforcement division was working toward a policy that would have limited so-called claw-back actions to times when the executive is implicated in the violations, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter. |

| The Internal Revenue Service said that it would overhaul a unit devoted to scrutinizing large corporations and wealthy individuals, a shift that would bolster the agency's growing focus on international tax evasion. The I.R.S. said that it would centralize operations at the core unit, which will now be known as the large business and international division, to give international examiners the authority to decide whether to pursue or settle contentious tax cases involving multinational corporations. |

| Minorities and women are vastly underrepresented on corporate boards and executive positions in Fortune 500 companies, according to a survey by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.). The results showed minorities represent just one out of seven members of corporate boards, while women constitute one in five. |

| The increase in second-quarter initial public offerings is a sign that financial markets are more willing to put money into long-term growth, and that investors are more willing to take risks again for higher returns. IPO volume in the U.S. grew from 27 launches in the first quarter to 37 in the second quarter -- the largest number in any quarter since the financial crisis began. |

The Act implements sweeping reform throughout the system, reaching from consumer protection to regulation of transparency and accountability for Wall Street players. Global Deal Activity is Up
According to the Q2 2010 IntraLinks Deal Flow Indicator report, there has been a 40 percent increase in global deal activity in Q2 2010 versus Q2 2009 and an 11 percent increase in activity over the last quarter.
