Issued Today: Accountable Care Organizations Rule

On Thursday, March 31, 2011, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued the Medicare Shared Savings Program: Accountable Care Organizations Rule (Proposed ACO Rule).  Section 3022 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 required the Secretary of DHHS to establish a shared savings program by January 1, 2012.  The long-awaited Proposed ACO Rule proposes a shared savings program for provider groups to establish accountable care organizations, agree to meet quality measures, and share in savings generated for Medicare by meeting certain cost and quality benchmarks.  View the full Proposed ACO Rule here.

Ice Miller LLP's Health Care Group is reviewing the proposed regulations and will prepare a summary to distribute to our clients.  In the meantime, for more information on the Proposed ACO Rule or to discuss how the Proposed ACO Rule may impact you or your organization, please contact a member of Ice Miller's Health Care Group.
