Ice Miller Announces New 2017 Partners

Ice Miller LLP is pleased to announce that eight attorneys have been named new partners of the Firm effective Jan. 1, 2017. The attorneys who have been named as partners are: Mark Alson, Stephen Edwards, Joanne Goldhand, Eric Goodman, Steve Latterell, Erik Long, Laurie Miller and Freedom Smith.
 
Mark Alson primarily focuses his practice in the areas of utility, energy and administrative law. Mark provides full-service representation of utilities and local governments in regulatory matters before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, as well as litigation representation in Indiana’s trial and appellate courts. Mark’s extensive litigation background, including representing clients in all aspects of commercial and business disputes, contributes to his ability to assist clients through the intricacies of regulatory challenges to obtain constructive results. Mark also has experience with providing counsel related to FERC and NERC compliance matters. Mark is located in the Firm’s Indianapolis office.
 
Stephen Edwards concentrates his practice in the area of mergers and acquisitions. He has represented a wide range of clients in a variety of M&A transactions, with a particular focus on the representation of private equity funds and their portfolio companies. He has drafted and negotiated complex transactional documents for both stock and asset acquisitions, as well as agreements of merger, along with the various ancillary documents necessary in any given deal. Steve is located in the Firm’s Columbus office.
 
Joanne Goldhand has practiced transactional real estate law since 1988 on behalf of lenders, borrowers, developers, tenants, homeowners, government, landlords and others with or desiring land. Having worked in-house and for the federal government as well as for national, local and regional law firms, she has a unique ability to weigh all parties' needs and reach a mutually beneficial solution. Her nine years at a retail developer give her a special insight into landlords’ thinking. She has been a preferred counsel to DSW, The Limited and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, evidencing her ability to see issues from all sides. Joanne is located in the Firm’s Columbus office.
 
Eric Goodman concentrates in corporate and securities law, and his practice is primarily focused on private equity and venture financing transactions, representing start-up and emerging growth companies, securities regulation and general corporate matters. Eric's experience includes representing private equity clients in equity and mezzanine investments, leveraged buy-outs, recapitalization transactions and representing both buying and selling companies in merger and acquisition transactions. He assists clients with a variety of equity and debt financing transactions, including raising equity funding from angel investors and venture capitalists and structuring debt. Eric is located in the Firm’s Indianapolis office.
 
Steve Latterell is an estate planning and probate attorney who helps clients protect their assets and transfer them to loved ones and charities in a tax efficient and customized manner designed around each client's specific needs. This work includes utilizing estate planning tools, such as: wills; revocable trusts (living trusts); limited liability companies; irrevocable trusts (e.g., grantor retained annuity trusts, life insurance trusts, etc.); and other advanced estate planning tools. Steve also represents clients with estate and trust administration matters, including will and trust disputes. Steve is located in the Firm’s Indianapolis office.
 
Erik Long serves public school corporations, higher education institutions, libraries and other political subdivisions on a wide variety of municipal finance transactions. Erik's transactional experience includes new money financings for capital projects and refunding transactions, all through the issuance of general obligation bonds, lease financings, revenue bonds and tax anticipation warrants. Erik is located in the Firm’s Indianapolis office.
 
Laurie Miller focuses her practice in corporate law, with experience in negotiating, managing and completing complex financing transactions and business transactions. She assists corporations with negotiating complex leasing transactions, equipment purchase and procurement agreements. She also has experience in industrial development revenue bond issuances. Laurie is located in the Firm’s DuPage County, Illinois office.
 
Freedom Smith concentrates her practice in the areas of environmental insurance coverage, environmental and toxic tort litigation, product liability and general business litigation. She has litigated claims in both state and federal courts. Freedom has experience managing environmental liability in business transactions; hiring and working with environmental consultants to achieve client objectives; litigating cases for both public and private clients involving environmental clean-ups under a wide variety of regulatory programs, including CERCLA/SUPERFUND; and handling environmental insurance and coverage claims. Freedom is located in the Firm’s Indianapolis office.
