Ice Miller Continues Support of National FFA by Chairing Sponsors' Board
Ice Miller LLP proudly joined students, parents, teachers and agribusiness leaders last month in Louisville, Ky., to show support for the National FFA and its student leaders. The theme of the 86th National FFA Convention was "Ignite – Leadership. Growth. Success." The Convention was a huge success with record attendance of 62,998 over four days.
"Ice Miller's relationship with FFA began five years ago, but our commitment to its mission and efforts is deep," said Melissa Proffitt Reese, chair of Ice Miller's Food and Agribusiness practice. "It is the students – their commitment and passion – that has resulted in our firm's loyal support for FFA. We are committed to assisting these talented students by introducing them to the importance of basic legal services, such as business law, estate planning and intellectual property protection. Businesses of all sizes need these services. We also have found that many students have an interest in legal careers – we have shared with them what it takes to maximize success in law school and what opportunities they have to practice law in a way that supports agribusiness."
During the Convention, Ice Miller's Director of Agribusiness Strategies, Beth Bechdol, assumed the role of chair of the National FFA Sponsors' Board. The Sponsors' Board, made up of 37 top corporate executives from around the country, supports the fundraising efforts of the National FFA Foundation. Sponsors' board membership is selected with a geographical and industry mix of leaders. Board members serve annual terms between conventions and can serve up to three terms. During their service, board members seek to strengthen existing relationships and develop new partnerships between sponsors and the FFA. A complete list of the 2013-2014 board members can be found here.
"This year's Sponsors' Board helped the FFA Foundation raise a record $18.2 million from corporate sponsors and individuals to support National FFA, agriculture education, state FFA associations and local FFA chapters," said Bechdol. "We have 11 new members on the board who are ready to get to work and help us have another year of record funding. It will be another exciting year for FFA, and I am looking forward to playing just a small role in supporting our next generation of leaders."
The students of the FFA will be a part of an agriculture industry that will feed the soon-to-be 9 billion people on our planet, improve human health, create new sources of energy and help care for our environment and natural resources. Ice Miller is extremely proud to support this great organization and its talented young leaders and looks forward to this coming year with FFA, helping to further the FFA mission to make a positive different in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
