Ice Miller Expands to East Coast with Opening of New York Office, Bolstering Leading National Private Equity Practice
Ice Miller LLP is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in New York. This will be the seventh office of Ice Miller, and will be located at 1500 Broadway, Suite 2401, New York, New York.
Former McCarter & English partner Thomas Kesoglou has joined the firm and will serve as the office managing partner of the New York office, and will lead the firm’s private equity practice in New York. Kesoglou focuses his practice on representing private equity funds, mezzanine funds, SBICs, BDCs, family offices and independent sponsors in connection with a variety of corporate transactions.
The opening of the New York office and the addition of Kesoglou allow Ice Miller to deepen its private equity practice.
“The firm’s depth of practice in private equity in the middle market is what attracted me to Ice Miller,” Kesoglou explained. “It is a terrific law firm with an outstanding platform for providing high quality service to the existing funds I represent.”
“We need to go where our clients are, and more and more of our transactional and private equity clients are based on the East Coast,” said chief managing partner Steve Humke. “Opening an office in New York is consistent with our strategic plan and affords us an opportunity to better serve our expanding client base by meeting them where they live and work.”
Kesoglou has represented a wide variety of private equity investors in their investment strategies, including leveraged buyouts, mezzanine financings, growth capital transactions, early and late stage private equity investments and secondary transactions. Kesoglou has also advised these investors in connection with the management of their portfolio companies, including acquisitions, dispositions, follow-on debt or equity investments, bridge loans, restructurings, recapitalizations, employment matters, stock plans and other general corporate matters. These transactions include a wide variety of industries, including business services, manufacturing, health care, technology and hospitality.
“The addition of Tom to our firm and our new foothold in New York allow us to provide greater depth to our private equity clients,” said Edward Braum, partner and a leader of the firm’s Private Equity practice.
Kesoglou joins a private equity team of nearly 40 attorneys where the firm has built a reputation for working closely with private equity investors on fund formation, leveraged recapitalizations, growth capital investments, acquisition and disposition of portfolio companies and portfolio company management.
In 2014, the Ice Miller private equity team closed over 80 transactions and in the past 5 years over 400 transactions worth in excess of $17 billion. “We have longstanding relationships with private equity and venture capital firms across the country, including the East Coast,” said John Thornburgh, partner and co-chair of the Ice Miller Business Group.
