Ice Miller LLP Welcomes Two New Associates
INDIANAPOLIS – Ice Miller announces the addition of two new associates in the Employee Benefits Group, Malaika Caldwell and John Zollo.
Caldwell focuses her practice on welfare benefit plans and qualified plans of for-profit entities and governmental plans. She also advises clients on all aspects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that affect employee benefit plans, including new coverage mandates and reporting requirements.
Zollo's practice includes all areas of employee benefits law including qualified plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, welfare plans, DOL investigations and DOL and IRS correction programs. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to employee stock ownership plans including ESOP transactions, compliance and fiduciary issues.
“We are very happy to welcome Malaika and John to the Firm,” said Melissa Reese, co-chair of the Employee Benefits Group. “These attorneys bring tremendous talent and experience to our ever growing employee benefits practice group. The depth and diversity of our practice and client base continues to demand quality lawyers with broad benefits experience.”
Caldwell received her Bachelors of Science in human resources management from Elmhurst College, in Elmhurst, Ill., in 2007. She earned her juris doctor from John Marshall Law School in 2011 and a Masters of Law with a concentration in employee benefits in 2012. At John Marshall Law School she served as staff editor for Review of Intellectual Property Law and senior editor for the SRBLSA Law Journal.
Caldwell has a passion for mentoring and reshaping the lives of youth in at-risk neighborhoods, because of her similar background. During law school, she volunteered at the Expungement Help Desk for the Cabrini Green Legal Aid in Chicago, helping individuals expunge and seal criminal records in order for them to seek employment opportunities. Caldwell currently volunteers on the auxiliary board for Women Divine, an organization designed to educate, inspire and empower teenage and young women to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.
Zollo graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 2007 where he was an editor of the UC Davis Law Review and received the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Pension Law. Before joining Ice Miller, he was a senior attorney at Chang, Ruthenberg & Long P.C. in Folsom, Calif.
Zollo has a master’s degree in psychology from Ohio University, where he received a four-year doctoral fellowship. In 2002, he moved to California to work with a group of industrial and organizational psychologists at Williams-Sonoma Inc., where he was involved in leadership and organizational development projects. During law school, he volunteered for Legal Services of Northern California and for the March of Dimes.
