Ice Miller Named One of the “50 Best Law Firms For Women” by Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers
Indianapolis – Ice Miller has been named among the 2015 “Best Law Firms for Women,” by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers. Ice Miller was recognized for its family friendly policies and career and business development initiatives that are helping to retain women attorneys and advance them into the leadership pipeline.
Ice Miller is passionately committed to providing leadership opportunities for women. Of the Firm’s 13 practice groups, six (or 41 percent) are chaired or co-chaired by women partners, and women partners represent 36 percent of the Firm’s committee chairs. Women hold three seats of the Firm’s seven-member management team. Additionally, more than 30 percent of Ice Miller attorneys are female, creating a strong pipeline bringing women into leadership positions.
“The Firm's long history of successful women was not the result of any type of ‘initiative,’" said Judy Okenfuss, managing partner at Ice Miller. “It evolved out of a belief that the best person should be hired for the job, regardless of gender.”
Over the course of multiple decades, the women of Ice Miller have influenced through leadership and management roles within and outside of the Firm, through mentoring, training and leading by example. Currently, 64 percent of Ice Miller’s Professional Development Committee for Associates and Counsel is female, and is led by a female partner chair.
Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers founded the 50 Best Law Firms for Women initiative in 2007 to celebrate the law firms that are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers. Ice Miller was recognized in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015.
Jennifer Owens, editorial director of Working Mother Media, said, “The 50 Best Law Firms for Women are setting and pushing forward the standard when it comes to retaining women--and advancing them to the very top, equity partnership. These firms are also committed to creating best practices that support working parents.”
Deborah Epstein Henry, president of Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, adds, “Law firms that focus exclusively on flexible and reduced hour policies to retain women or solely on getting women in power seats are missing the mark. We see our Best Law Firms for Women who are having the most success to be the ones that understand the value of focusing on both retention and promotion simultaneously. They are cultivating female talent to facilitate that they get the good work, the skills and the flexibility they may need. Yet they are also investing in women with business development and leadership opportunities to ensure they have a strong presence and voice in the equity partner ranks, the governing committees and in running the law firm as a business.”
