Topics In The Familiy And Medical Leave Act In Indiana (April 8, 2005)
After more than 10 years, the FMLA remains an extremely difficult and
frustrating law for employers to administer, and it creates several traps
that can lead to employer and individual liability. This seminar moved
beyond the basics and assisted participants in sorting through the complex
and challenging real-world issues involved in complying with the FMLA.
Ice Miller's Julie Conrad, Tami Earnhart, Chris Sears
and Paul Sinclair were on the faculty for this presentation which covered
topics including: Controlling intermittent and reduced schedule leave,
responding to possible fraud and abuse, medical certification challenges,
practical strategies for benefits administration, and complicated coverage
and eligibility issues.

Torts in Indiana (April 12, 2005)
Business tort law is a fast-growing and continually evolving area of
law. This seminar included practical advice for avoiding and minimizing
business tort liability. By attending this seminar, attorneys who advise
businesses gained a better appreciation and understanding of the law in
this area, as well as the risks involved in the formation and operation
of business entities. Ice Miller's Melanie Harris, Brent Huber, Angela
Krahulik, Curtis McCauley, Donald Snemis, and Michael Tooley were on the
faculty for this presentation which covered topics including: learning
to avoid business disputes and liability with proper planning, minimizing
the exposure of officers and directors, understanding the evolving nature
of business relationships, and correctly evaluating risk and exposure
to business tort liability
- Employee
Privacy Rights Webinar (March 17, 2005)
In conjunction with the Indiana Chamber, and presented by Mike Tooley,
this webinar discussed the increasing tension in the law between employee
privacy and employers' need to know. It explained the limits placed on
the ability of employers to monitor workplace communications and computer
usage under federal law and the exposure faced by employers who choose,
or refuse, to do so. It also discussed "cyberspace organizing"
techniques used by 21st Century union organizers and the rights of employees
under federal labor law to use computer systems for purposes of protected
concerted activities.

a Hispanic Workforce: Legal and Cultural Issues (February 15, 2005)
For the third year, Ice Miller teamed up with the Indiana Chamber of
Commerce to present the seminar "Employing a Hispanic Workforce:
Legal and Cultural Issues." In conjunction with the Indiana Chamber,
and developed by Jenifer Brown and Tami Earnhart of Ice Miller, this seminar
took place on February 15, 2005, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and was
filled with information to help you face legal and cultural issues that
could affect your business. This seminar covered various issues of importance
to employers, such as: communications quandaries, social security "mismatch"
issues, national origin discrimination, and immigration reform. The seminar
will also include a panel discussion with managers and human resources
professionals on their real life experiences in embracing the Hispanic
culture in the workplace.

- Integrating
Retirement Plans Into The Estate Planning Process (November 4, 2004)
This seminar explained how qualified retirement plans and IRAs can be
one of the very best assets to own and pass on to heirs or be a nightmare
of taxes eating up what clients have worked hard to accumulate. Ice Miller's
Kevin Alerding and Kristine Bouaichi were on the faculty for this presentation
which covered topics including: Retirement plan distributions, spousal
rollovers and net unrealized appreciation; income, gift, estate, generation-skipping
and excise taxes; drafting to integrate retirement plans into the estate
planning process; charitable planning with qualified retirement plans
and IRAs; and administering trusts with retirement plan assets.

This introductory level seminar was designed to provide lawyers, accountants
and other professionals with the knowledge to better assist their clients

and successfully closing the underlying acquisition transaction. Ice Miller's
Kyle Hupfer and Michael Millikan were on the faculty for this presentation
