Professional Experience:
Matthew DeLaruelle focuses his practice in all aspects of commercial real estate, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, financing and development. He represents regional and national real estate developers in connection with a variety of office, retail, hotel, industrial, multi-family, condominium, time share and mixed-use developments as well as international corporations in connection with real estate transactions throughout the country.
DeLaruelle has served as primary real estate counsel to the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority since 2005 in connection with its development and construction of the $600+ million Lucas Oil Stadium and $270+ million expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. He assisted in negotiations with the Indianapolis Colts and the city of Indianapolis in connection with project development and lease agreements for Lucas Oil Stadium and coordinated the acquisition and assemblage of over 50 acres of real estate in downtown, Indianapolis for the projects. In addition to addressing utility relocation, condemnation issues and negotiations with the U.S. Postal Service, CSX Railroad, Amtrak and other public and private land owners, he continues to assist in the formulation of strategies to solve parking, storage and other real estate, liability, and insurance issues that impact the Lucas Oil Stadium and Indiana Convention Center expansion projects, working with a myriad of city, state and federal governmental entities.
DeLaruelle was born in Mishawaka, Ind. and graduated from Purdue University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. Prior to law school, he worked in the commercial lending industry for Conseco Finance. He obtained his juris doctorate from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 2003 where he earned Order of the Coif, Honor Scholar, Robert L. Proost Family Scholar in Law and CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Intellectual Property Licensing and Cyberspace Law.
Prior to joining Ice Miller LLP in 2005, DeLaruelle worked for Carmody MacDonald, P.C. in St. Louis, Mo., where he practiced corporate, real estate and intellectual property law. DeLaruelle is admitted to practice in Missouri and Indiana.
