Professional Experience:
Joshua L. Christie is an associate in the Firm's Business Group and a member of the Firm's Life Sciences Group. Christie primarily focuses his practice on corporate transactions, commercial agreements, general corporate matters, start-up and early stage companies, and aviation law.
Christie has assisted clients with a variety of transactions, including the acquisition and sale of assets and equity, equity issuances, financing and re-financing, mergers, and joint venture formations. He has also assisted entrepreneurs in entity formation and other legal matters related to starting new businesses. Christie's transactional experience crosses a wide variety of industries, including health care, life sciences, road construction, food products, recycling of hazardous materials, agribusiness, retail, information technology, consulting and professional services.
Christie also assists clients in the preparation, drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements, including the sale, purchase, supply and manufacture of products and services. His experience in this area also has touched a number of industries, primarily in the chemical, life sciences, food products and consulting industries.
In addition, Christie advises clients in general corporate matters, including entity formation, the sale and issuance of securities, advising boards of directors and other corporate governance issues, including fiduciary duties of directors and officers, and corporate policies and procedures.
Christie also advises clients in acquisition, sale and financing transactions for private aircraft, including the structuring of such transactions to comply with applicable tax laws (federal and state), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, and required filings with the FAA and Indiana Department of Revenue. In addition, he assists clients in structuring private aircraft operations to comply with FAA guidelines and regulations, including Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
In 2010, Christie was a recipient of the Indiana Lawyer's Leadership-in-Law Up-and-Coming Lawyer Award, recognizing him for his contributions to both the legal profession as well as the community.
Currently, Christie serves as a member of the board of directors of the Central Indiana Land Trust, Inc., and the co-chair of the organization's Stewardship Committee, a committee charged with the coordination and performance of projects to preserve the properties owned, managed and protected by that organization, both through volunteers and contractors, as well as in the development of short and long-term management plans for such properties. Christie is also a member of the Penrod Society, which holds the Penrod Arts Fair annually in Indianapolis and supports the cultural and educational activities of the Indianapolis area artists, students and arts organizations.
Christie serves as a judge for the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law-Bloomington, having done so in both the preliminary and octo-final rounds. He has also participated in the Indiana State Bar Association's "Why Lincoln Was a Lawyer" program, speaking to elementary school students about Abraham Lincoln as a lawyer, and the importance of laws and lawyers to society as a whole.
Christie earned his Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Colby College in Waterville, Maine in 2003, with a minor in philosophy.
After college, Christie returned to Indiana and earned his juris doctorate, cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law-Bloomington in 2006. While in law school, he served as a notes editor for the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.
Christie joined Ice Miller as an associate in 2006.
