Full Biography: Michael A. Wilkins
Michael Wilkins practices in virtually all areas of litigation, with a focus on appellate advocacy, business litigation, media law, and family law.
Mike spends the majority of his time representing clients in state and federal appellate and trial courts, handling virtually all types of litigation. He recently represented DIRECTV in approximately 450 federal lawsuits in the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, seeking to recover damages for the piracy of satellite television signals. He also played a key role in the successful litigation and subsequent appeal concerning the lease of the Indiana Toll Road.
Mike frequently represents media clients on a variety of issues, from pre-broadcast and pre-publication review, to access to public records, to defense of defamation and other related suits. Mike often assists with investigative reports by Indianapolis television station WTHR and other media outlets. He recently authored an amicus curiae brief on behalf of the Hoosier State Press Association supporting the successful attempt of the Knightstown Banner to obtain access to public records. He has briefed and argued significant First Amendment issues before the Indiana Supreme Court.
Mike also devotes much of his practice to representing families in the adoption process and in all other aspects of family law. He has also represented universities before the NCAA Infractions and Review Committees and athletes in eligibility cases before the IHSAA.
Originally from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in American Studies in 1985. He received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 1988, where he was a member of the school's National Moot Court team.
Mike joined Ice Miller in 1988 after graduating from law school. He is married and the father of four daughters, ages 15 to 8. He is an active member of Oaklandon Christian Church and a volunteer coach in the Northeast Youth Soccer League.
