Full Biography: Steven K. Humke
Steven K. Humke is a founding partner of the Ice Miller Private Equity and Venture Services Group.
Steve’s practice focuses on assisting high growth, owner-managed companies grow their businesses. He also advises several equity funds that invest in such businesses. He devotes the bulk of his practice to advising companies with corporate governance, strategic planning, raising capital and growth through acquisitions.
Steve graduated summa cum laude from Duke University in 1981. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Between college and law school he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School in 1985. Steve spent the first seven years of his practice in Washington, D.C. where he spent the bulk of his time in New York City conference rooms negotiating, structuring and documenting large transactions. He returned to the Midwest in 1992 with the goal of becoming more involved in participating in the strategic decisions that drive transactions, not simply documenting them. Steve has served as primary outside counsel and advisor to growth companies in a variety of industries, ranging from start-up companies seeking their first financings to a public company with revenues exceeding $600 million. Since joining Ice Miller, he has served as the lead attorney on more than seventy completed acquisitions and numerous financings, including private placements, public offerings and venture capital transactions. Steve is a also a member of the Firms Agriculture Law Initiative and counsels clients on transactional and investment related services.
Steve gives frequent speeches on topics of interest to growth companies, including choice of entity, negotiating transactions, structuring venture capital and private equity financings, and preparing for and completing initial public offerings. In his free time he enjoys reading American history, about which he knows a good deal, and playing golf, about which he knows nothing. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife Lisa, daughter Rachael, three cats, two dogs and one horse. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana and in Washington, D.C.
