Professional Experience:
James Petersen's primary practice concentration is litigation. He has handled a diverse case load including insurance coverage cases, securities and commercial litigation, franchise disputes, creditors' rights disputes, and product liability suits.
Petersen has handled a variety of matters before NASD and AAA arbitration panels involving insurance, construction and customer claims in the securities industry. Petersen has litigated before Indiana's state and federal courts, and has represented clients in numerous appeals, including matters before the United States Supreme Court and the Indiana Supreme Court. Several of his cases have set legal precedent.
Petersen is a speaker and author on various topics related to litigation, including tort reform, insurance coverage, franchising and product liability.
Born in Bloomington, Ill., Petersen obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State University. He received his Master of Arts from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He obtained his juris doctorate from Indiana University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While in law school he was an associate editor for the Indiana Law Journal.
Petersen joined Ice Miller in 1976. He is admitted to practice law in Florida and Indiana.
