Professional Experience:
Paul Jones is a partner in Ice Miller's Tax Group and oversees the Firm's property tax practice. He handles property tax appeals and exemptions for a broad range of clients. He also serves as lead counsel on New Markets Tax Credits financing transactions and assists clients in obtaining other economic development incentives.
Jones has experience representing clients before all levels of the Internal Revenue Service, and before various state and local regulatory agencies, including property tax boards of appeal, the Indiana Board of Tax Review and the Indiana Department of State Revenue. He has served as lead associate on several New Markets Tax Credits transactions and has significant experience representing clients in real estate financing transactions. He also assists clients with tax and business planning, including the structuring of joint ventures, public-private partnerships, and both for-profit and nonprofit mergers and acquisitions. He frequently speaks at conferences and seminars about New Markets Tax Credits, tax matters, and community and economic development.
Jones is also a member of the Firm's Green Industries Initiative and counsels clients on tax credits relating to sustainable development and renewable energy projects.
Prior to joining the Firm, Jones served as a hearing officer in the Legal Division of the Indiana Department of State Revenue and worked as an intern for the State Tax Consulting group of Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Jones worked as a law clerk for Ice Miller.
He received his Bachelor of Science in public affairs, with distinction, from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1998. He earned his juris doctorate from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, graduating magna cum laude in 2001. While in law school, he was an associate editor of the Indiana Law Review and a Program on Law and State Government Fellow.
