Full Biography: Lisa Anne Stone
For nearly 29 years with Ice Miller (over 20 years as a partner in the Personal Services Group), Lisa Stone has devoted her practice to the representation of successful business owners and other wealthy individuals in the areas of estate and tax planning, charitable giving, estate and trust administration, and general business and succession planning matters. Her practice has also included providing advice and counsel to charitable organizations, including universities and hospitals, in the areas of charitable giving, trust interpretation and administration, maintaining tax exempt status, and building endowments. Ms. Stone has worked with many individuals of means to develop and implement sophisticated estate plans using the latest techniques that are designed to preserve their wealth and meet such individuals' estate planning, tax savings, and charitable giving goals. Similarly, she has worked with business owners to successfully address their succession planning needs utilizing various tax savings techniques. The techniques she has used include lifetime gifting through family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts, corporate reorganizations, qualified personal residence trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, private foundations, donor advised funds, employee stock ownership plans, and the like. She has also been involved in resolving many large gift and estate tax audits in a manner that is favorable to the taxpayers.
Ms. Stone has served as the Co-Chair of the Firm's Personal Services/Trusts and Estates Group for over 15 years and also serves as a member of the Tax Group, as well as the Firm's Colleges and Universities Group. She is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, and American Bar Associations. She previously has served as Chair of the Estate Planning and Administrative Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association. A Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel and a member of its Charitable Giving Committee, her other professional memberships include the Estate Planning Council of Indianapolis and the Planned Giving Group of Indiana, for which she has served as a member of the Board of Directors. She previously served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the IUPUI Jaguars Athletics Club and served as a member of the Search Committee for Chancellor of IUPUI. She is currently a member of the IUPUI Chancellor's Circle and the IUPUI Chancellor's Advisory Board. She has also served as Chair and a member of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Indianapolis, a member of the Executive Board of the Indianapolis Parks Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of Community Hospitals Foundation, and member of Board of The Phoenix Theatre. She has also served as a member of the Planned Giving Advisory Council of The Eiteljorg Museum and the Planned Giving Committee of The Indianapolis Zoo. She served for a number of years as a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Indiana Business Modernization and Technology Corporation, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Home Care Foundation, and as a member of the Board of Directors of Family Service Association. She has also served as the Chair and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mapleton-Fall Creek Housing Development Corporation. Ms. Stone has been listed for each of the past 10 years in The Best Lawyers in America, and has been named by the Indianapolis Monthly magazine as one of the top lawyers in Indianapolis and as an Indiana Super Lawyer.
Ms. Stone grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, where she graduated with distinction in 1976. She earned her Master of Business Administration from the Indiana University School of Business - Bloomington in 1980 and her Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1980. She joined Ice Miller LLP immediately thereafter and became a partner in the firm in 1987. She moved to Senior Counsel status in 2007. She is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana.
