Multiemployer Plans

Multi-employer benefit plans are trust funds jointly established by unions and employers to provide pension, health, and other benefits to unionized employees. Many employers may contribute to a multi-employer fund, which is managed by a board of trustees comprised of an equal number of union and management representatives. Multi-employer funds are subject to a variety of legal requirements and the trustees of these funds owe fiduciary duties to the employee participants and their dependents. The Ice Miller Benefits Group serves as Fund counsel to multi-employer funds, advises multi-employer fund trustees on their fiduciary obligations and compliance requirements of various federal laws, and provides representation in disputes and litigation.
