A variety of benefits that employers provide to employees fall under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, commonly known as "ERISA." ERISA's complex and comprehensive rules apply to pension benefits and common “welfare” benefits, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance plans, among others.
