Ice Miller LLP

NCAA Infractions and Appeals

The extensive resources at Ice Miller allow the Collegiate Sports Practice to construct, copy and deliver all necessary materials to the NCAA National Office to ensure that all relevant materials are received in a timely and professional manner. The Collegiate Sports Practice also utilizes the resources of an "Extranet," whereby institutional administrators can access all relevant case materials via Ice Miller's secured internet site.

The members of the Collegiate Sports Practice has many combined years of experience in presenting infractions cases before the NCAA Committee on Infractions (COI). The team has worked with many member institutions, through their athletic directors and general counsels, in responding to allegations of NCAA rules violations and presenting that information in a favorable light before the COI.

In the event that the COI makes a finding and/or assesses a penalty that warrants an appeal, the Collegiate Sports Practice also offers assistance in creating a member institution's appeal arguments before the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee. Our tested experience, NCAA legislative knowledge and database on past Infractions and Appeals give us the ability to present persuasive arguments based upon a thorough understanding of the NCAA process, the individuals involved, and the past actions of the COI.

Finally, in the event that a student-athlete is found to be ineligible for competition, the Collegiate Sports Practice is frequently requested to present information to the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, where we have been successful in achieving the immediate reinstatement of the student-athlete for competition or in reducing the number of days the student-athlete must be held out of competition.
