On March 22, the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) held its 13th Annual Origins Banquet. Founded in 2005 by Ice Miller partner Reena R. Bajowala, the Banquet celebrates Asian Pacific American diversity and culture at the University of Michigan Law School and in the legal profession. In addition, the APALSA awards its George Ariyoshi Fellowship at the Banquet each year.

Department of Commerce releases a Green Paper Fostering the Advancement of the Internet of Things

The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on January 12, 2017 issued a green paper
Fostering the Advancement of the Internet of Things to identify elements of an approach and areas of engagement for the Department to pursue as it seeks broad input in its future work on the Internet of Things (“IoT”). The paper asserts that the federal government needs to develop a long term strategy, a collaborative approach with the private sector and a global perspective to permit IoT technology to reach its full potential to create new industries and new consumer goods. It rejects the idea that standards for privacy and security can be left to market forces.
