Melissa Proffitt currently serves as co-chair for the American Cancer Society’s Indiana ResearcHERS initiative. ResearcHERS: Women Fighting Cancer seeks to raise funds to support women in cancer research leadership roles and inspire women to pursue careers in science.
Melissa and fellow co-chair Jill Geer, chief marketing officer of the American College of Education, hope to raise $160,000 during the campaign’s inaugural year.
The American Cancer Society launched ResearcHERS in 15 markets, including Indiana. Melissa discussed the Indiana’s involvement with
Inside Indiana Business, “I think there’s a reason why they selected us. Because they believe there is a real genuine understanding of the importance of this and the need for this and the need for women to get behind other women researchers.”
ResearcHERS hopes to raise more awareness by recruiting Women Fighting Cancer ambassadors and involving Indiana businesses for corporate sponsorship, matching gift and programming partnership opportunities.
