Ice Miller Partners to Present at Indianapolis Women’s Leadership Conference

Ice Miller LLP Partners Melissa Proffitt, Christina Fugate, Lisa LeeHeather James and Kip Tew will present at the 2018 Indianapolis Women’s Leadership Conference on Aug. 28 at the JW Marriott.

The conference is sponsored by the Integrating Women Leaders Foundation, whose mission is to promote inclusive leadership in high-performing organizations and the personal development of women. The conference seeks to equip women and businesses with the informational resources they need to achieve gender equality in the workplace.

Melissa, Christina and Lisa will present, “Negotiate Like a Lawyer Even If You Are Not One,” during the first breakout session from 9:25 a.m. – 10:25 a.m. This presentation will discuss various strategies used by attorneys to help women improve their negotiation behavior to attain better results in business transactions.

During the second breakout session from 1:25 p.m. – 2:25 p.m., Heather and Kip will present “Engaging Men in the Diversity Discussion.” This presentation will cover tips for including men in conversations about workplace diversity and how to make them advocates for female leaders.

Melissa Proffitt is the office managing partner of the Indianapolis Office of Ice Miller, former Managing Partner of the Firm, chair of the Food & Agribusiness Group, co-chair of the Employee Benefits Group, chair of the Energy Group and is responsible for business development initiatives for the Firm. She concentrates her practice in employee benefits with a focus on welfare benefit plans and qualified plans. She counsels regional and international clients on benefit issues, including plan formation and design.

Christina Fugate is a partner in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group, providing risk management and litigation services for a wide range of commercial matters and clients. Christina represented companies and individuals in several types of litigation involving franchise disputes, product liability claims, real estate matters, securities litigation, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights issues and general competitive business litigation.

Lisa Lee’s primary practice concentration is municipal finance. Lisa is a frequent speaker on the issues of tax increment finance, economic development and general municipal finance and has been a panelist at seminars held by the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and many more organizations on these and additional topics.

Heather James is a partner in the Municipal Finance Group. Heather focuses her practice on working with municipal units of government as bond counsel for a wide variety of their financings, including for general obligations, utilities, tax increment, economic development, letters of credit and providing assistance to state and local governments with taxable and tax exempt financing for themselves and local industry.
 
Kipper (Kip) Tew concentrates his practice on public affairs and municipal law, including smart cities and IoT, gaming, alcohol, utilities and campaign finance. Kip has also been actively involved in the political process.
