Bob Schillerstrom Receives Award for Support of Diversity Programs in Tollway Project
March 19, 2018

In a ceremony on March 14, the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) presented partner Bob Schillerstrom, Illinois Tollway Board of Directors Chairman, with the Visionary Award for his service to the community of Chicago and the construction industry.

The Visionary Award was presented at the Chicago Hilton & Towers at 720 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago during HACIA’s 39th Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet is recognized as the largest construction dinner in Chicago, with over 1,200 attendees from corporate and construction industries and government leaders.

Bob received the Visionary Award in recognition of his leadership promoting an inclusive Diversity Program to support the implementation of the Illinois Tollway’s 15-year, $14 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.

“We recognize Mr. Schillerstrom's fulfilling efforts in implementing diversity and inclusion in the Tollway’s Move Illinois Program and its Diversity Program,” said HACIA Executive Director Jorge Perez. “Under his strong leadership and vision, he has ensured that contract opportunities for disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned business enterprise firms, as well as veteran-owned firms, are expanded, and these firms are given an equal opportunity to participate on Tollway projects.”

The Tollway’s Diversity Program provides opportunities, sets goals, provides technical assistance and supports mentorship programs for diverse businesses and grows a strong pool of qualified firms owned by women, veterans and minorities to work on the Tollway project. To date, the Move Illinois program has invested more than $5.6 billion, with $1.6 billion committed to small, diverse or veteran-owned firms. As of January 2018, the capital program has created or sustained 57,430 jobs.

HACIA is a 501(c)(6) organization that promotes equitable participation of its constituents in the construction industry and promotes growth, integrity, professionalism and quality of work. HACIA works to give the Hispanic community tools to seek leadership opportunities, receive quality education and succeed in business.
