Ice Miller Host of Training Session for Equip for Equality’s Voting Access Chicago Initiative
March 29, 2018
Ice Miller LLP hosted a training session for Equip for Equality’s Voting Access Chicago Initiative on March 7. The goal of the initiative is to ensure polling location compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to make polling sites in Chicago accessible to individuals with diverse disabilities and older adults.

Volunteers, including Ice Miller attorneys Martha Kohlstrand and Heather Maly, were trained to conduct on-site surveys of polling locations to review accessibility, including wheelchair ramp slopes, door width and ballot accessibility for visually impaired voters. After the training session, volunteers audited polling locations on Primary Election Day, March 20, to ensure all Americans have access to polls, regardless of disability.

Martha Kohlstrand is an associate in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group and handles class actions, construction law and other matters.

Heather Maly is an associate in the Business Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, consumer class action defense and employment litigation.
