Catherine Strauss Joins Implicit Bias Panel Discussion at Ohio Women’s Bar Association Annual Meeting
May 14, 2018
Ice Miller partner Catherine Strauss participated in a panel discussion at the Ohio Women’s Bar Association (OWBA) and Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation (OWBF) 2018 Annual Meeting and Conference on April 26-27.

Catherine spoke on the “Implicit Bias in the Legal Profession: What Can We Do About It” panel on April 26. The session was focused on the idea of covert or implicit bias in the legal profession and the cumulative impact that can lessen women’s success in the legal field. These biases, triggered without our awareness or control, affect our daily interactions and assessment of others. Catherine discussed how implicit bias works and how it affects our decisions and activities.

The annual meeting and conference featured over seven hours of continuing legal education courses, a reception honoring women in government and a luncheon with keynote speaker Phyllis Harris, senior vice president and general counsel of legal operations, at Walmart Inc.

Catherine was recently installed as a board of trustee for the OWBA for 2018-2019. The OWBA’s Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall direction and control of the organization.

The OWBA’s mission is to promote the leadership, advancement and interests of women attorneys. The organization is able to achieve this goal through professional education, networking and the exchange of ideas between members, local bar associations, business and the community. The OWBF is the educational and charitable arm of the OWBA. The foundation advances the development of women lawyers as leaders and facilitates their service to the community.
