Ice Miller Supports Trinity Haven, Indiana's First LGBTQ Youth Home
October 31, 2018
Ice Miller continues to donate legal services to Trinity Haven, the first residence in Indiana dedicated to LGBTQ youth who are experiencing homelessness. The Trinity Haven initiative is a work in progress and continues to benefit from the support of various organizations from the surrounding community.

Trinity Haven, a collaboration between the Trinity Episcopal Church and Indiana Youth Group, will be a safe, welcoming and affirming home for LGBTQ youth to help them pursue their education and develop skills to thrive in the world.

The non-profit, conveniently located between its collaborative partners, recently found a permanent location but still requires significant support as it works to officially open its doors in mid-2019.

“Ice Miller is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion of all kinds, not just within our organization, but in the greater community as well,” said Myra Selby, Ice Miller’s Partner-in-Charge of Diversity and Inclusion.

Attorneys from several practice groups are donating legal assistance. A team of attorneys and professionals across the Firm’s Business, Tax, Real Estate, Construction and Tax-Exempt Groups are contributing their time and experience to the project. Kristen Matha, Ice Miller’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion, also is involved in the project.

“Our Firm is dedicated to the success of all our clients, but it is our pro bono clients that truly remind us how important our work is,” said Steve Humke, chief managing partner of Ice Miller. “We look forward to supporting Trinity Haven’s success as it prepares to open its doors to LGBTQ youth in need.”

According to Trinity Haven, every month, between 40 and 65 young people arrive at Indiana Youth Group without a safe place to live. LGBTQ youth who do not have a supporting family or stable living situation need special care and services to meet their needs. Trinity Haven will fill this need for the LGBTQ youth at risk for homelessness in Indianapolis.

By offering free legal counsel, Ice Miller contributes to Trinity Haven’s cause and helps homeless LGBTQ youth receive the care they need to not only make it another day, but to ultimately build a future in which they can flourish on their own.
