Job Description:
The Director of Knowledge Management & Information Research will work extensively with attorneys, business analysts, information related managers, librarians, practice groups and administrative departments to promote knowledge sharing throughout the Firm and its information systems, and to translate business needs into strategy, policies, and procedures. 

Essential Job Duties: 
•Work with project stakeholders, including owners of firm initiatives and projects, and technical team members in support of information/ data collection efforts
•Collaborate with project team members and other departments to establish creative solutions to business problems using KM best practices, technology and data analytics to meet firm objectives
•Encourage Firm citizens to share knowledge, ensuring they are aware of the knowledge management resources available to support their work
•Develop and lead orientation and training programs ensuring that users are appropriately trained and are using the systems efficiently and productively
•Provide strategic KM and research services to the Firm’s lawyers that are tailored to each practice area, jurisdiction or industry
•Collaborate and coordinate with librarians to provide seamless legal, business corporate and competitive intelligence research using a variety of resources
•Promote the use of the Firm's KM strategy, structure and tools for business development efforts in conjunction with the BD/Marketing team 
•Coordinate and implement promotion of knowledge and  library services through user instruction, departmental presentations and the development of training materials for all levels of users
•Responsible for remaining current on technological applications and best practices relevant to the provision of sophisticated knowledge and library services
•Assist the Firm’s librarians in the development of the law library’s short and long-range planning process and help formulate its overall mission, goals, strategies, standards, budgets, and law library service plans
•Develop mitigation plans for capturing and storing legacy knowledge as it retires or is retired
•Create and maintain processes that ensure quality data, including complete and accurate data sets
•Meet with vendors regarding information research and knowledge management services and resources including but not limited to contract negotiations, new products, renewals, training, problems, and support 
•Write and implement information research and knowledge management policies, procedures, initiates process improvement and quality review to simplify and improve productivity
•Stay abreast of current developments in the Law Library, Information Research and Knowledge Management field through attendance at educational conferences, seminars, workshops, and meetings, and reading current literature 
•Scan the environment for trends in the legal industry and KM profession and be on the forefront of developments that affect law firm management
•Research knowledge management tools, trends, and methods to continually improve the function
•Manage department staff which includes performance management, developing and coaching
•Maintain a positive customer service attitude at all times

Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Management, Knowledge Management, or Library Services or equivalent experience required. MLIS, MBA or JD preferred.  
•5+ years of experience managing knowledge management databases and law library teams
•Previous experience managing and/or working with large data sets to produce meaningful information/reports preferred
•Previous experience in the legal industry preferred 
•Proven track record and experience developing knowledge management policies and procedures, as well as successfully executing knowledge sharing programs
•Direct experience integrating knowledge with portals/intranets and databases
•Understanding of basic project management principles, including gathering, analyzing, and meeting business requirements, testing and quality assurance 
•Strong client service interactional skills and ability to understand and document client needs from a business solutions perspective 
•Ability to get consensus and collaboration across many business groups
•Ability to explain complex concepts with all levels of management and staff
•Builds partnerships for learning and knowledge sharing
•Proactive; sets high standards for self; commits to organizational goals
•Must be able to perform all essential duties
