Job Description:
Ice Miller is seeking a Technical Advisor to join our Philadelphia office who is well-versed in molecular or cell biology, microbiology, genetics, and preferably also organic chemistry. The Technical Advisor will provide technical expertise and assistance with research and analysis to be used in freedom to operate and due diligence search and analysis projects as well as preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree and 4 or more years of research experience in biological sciences. They should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive materials, and maintain strict confidentiality due to the nature of the position.
Essential Job Duties: 
•Provide technical expertise to a highly-regarded and busy life sciences and pharmaceutical patent practice
•Help conduct freedom to operate and/or IP due diligence search and analysis in support of the licensing and acquisitions and/or research and development of small- and large-molecule products 
•Help prepare and prosecute patent applications
•Research information to be used in opinions relating to patentability 
•Analyze and explain abstract scientific concepts and terms
•Provide technical research and analysis with respect to matters pending before the U.S. Patent and Trademark office
•Advise on technical components for patent interference and litigation proceedings
•Review and analyze patent and technical documents for case preparation
Minimum Requirements:
•Have a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, microbiology, or genetics, with superior academic record, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and strong attention to detail 
•Be willing to train and take the U.S. Patent Bar
•Possess a strong scientific background in the life sciences, with 4 or more years of research experience and a technical background in cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, or recombinant cell technology, and preferably also organic chemistry 
•Have demonstrated scientific writing ability using proper grammar and vocabulary 
•Have excellent verbal and presentation skills 
•Excel in a team environment
•Demonstrate a keen interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills both internally and externally
•Have prior experiences that prepare them to work with people from cultures and backgrounds different from their own
•Be highly motivated, a self-starter and results-oriented
•Be flexible and able to work effectively, thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, prioritize and resolve conflict workload assignments and adapt to changing conditions
