KOTRA New York’s IP-DESK | Managing Opportunities and Risks

KOTRA New York’s IP-DESK is delighted to present an in-person event titled “Managing Opportunities and Risks” on November 18th, 2021 from 5:30PM to 8PM in EST at the Korea Society.

Our first session will feature Alice Min Soo Chun, the founder and CEO of SEEUS95, Inc.  Alice invented the SEEUS95, the first self-attaching transparent N95 mask, to address discomfort from prolonged wear and environmental waste from disposable masks.  SEEUS95 mask’s campaign on Kickstarter initially raised over $380,000, and over $400,000 on Indiegogo. SEEUS95 masks are currently undergoing certification and testing as well as in its initial phase of mass production.  Previously, Alice co-founded Solight Design and invented SolarPuff, the world’s only self-inflatable, portable solar light. SolarPuff would go on to raise more than $400,000 on KickStarter.  With her innovative designs, Alice has won numerous awards, including U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Patents for Humanity Award and 2015 Architizer A+Award, Jury Winner for Lighting Accessories.  TaeSoo Sean Kim, partner at Ice Miller LLP, will leverage his own expertise in intellectual property and startups as he engages in a conversation with Alice.
Topics include Alice’s journey in bringing the SEEUS95 mask to market from its inception, securing and managing her intellectual property portfolio, leading successful crowdfunding campaigns, and collaborating with MIT and Harvard Medical School/Brighams Women’s Hospital for clinical trials, as well as lessons learned as a serial social entrepreneur.

In the second session, John K. Kim, a partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP, will give a lecture on best practices and strategies for defending an intellectual property lawsuit.  As a seasoned litigator in all aspects of intellectual property disputes, John will share his insights on how to respond to a complaint, avoid common mistakes, and prioritize with limited resources.  He will also explain the general litigation process, negotiation strategies, and settlement timeline.  John’s take on a number of hypothetical examples will enlighten Korean companies and help them to successfully navigate through legal challenges.

Please join us for an intellectually stimulating and inspirational evening.
