Social Equity 3.0: Using NFTs and Smart Contracts to Deliver Restitution for Equal Protection Violations During Cannabis Prohibition

This panel will examine the systematic deprivation of constitutional guarantees through racially biased enforcement of cannabis prohibition, the lasting injuries and on-going disparities resulting from these abuses, and reparative legislation (beyond legalization) to redress the harm done to those communities and individuals denied equal protection. After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the constitutionally dubious origins of cannabis prohibition
  • Learn legalization measures as a policy response to racial disparities in the enforcement of cannabis laws
  • Understand current state and local policies (beyond legalization) adopted to redress the lingering injuries of past prohibition and promote the growth of an equitable cannabis industry—including social equity licensing legislation
  • Find out how smart contracts function compared to conventional contracts comprised of conditions, covenants and dispute resolution mechanisms
  • Describe how currently available smart contract payment streaming protocols can be employed to remove human error
