Private Equity Firms Taking More Public Companies Out of Market
So far in 2019, there have been $69.6 billion in deals involving public companies being taken private by U.S. private equity sponsors -- up from $54.3 billion for all of 2018, according to Dealogic. If this pace of dealmaking continues, it will be the most active year for take-private transactions in the U.S. since 2007, the financial analytics firm said.

SBA Rule Adjusts Small Business Size Standards to Boost Lending
The U.S. Small Business Administration recently issued an interim final rule that will adjust monetary-based small business size standards for inflation to allow more small businesses to become eligible for the SBA's loan and contracting programs. The SBA is adjusting its industry-specific monetary-based size standards by nearly 8.4 percent to reflect the inflation that has occurred since the last adjustment for inflation in 2014, according to a press release from the agency.

Visa Policies Discourage Foreign Tech Workers from Joining Startups
American visa policies are discouraging foreign tech workers from working in startups, according to a study from Cornell University and UC San Diego researchers. The disparity is important because access to foreign talent gives companies a competitive edge that startups are missing out on, the study said.

SEC Proposes Easing Compliance Requirements for Public Companies
The Securities and Exchange Commission proposed revisions to disclosure rules that would ease the compliance burden for publicly held companies. The amendments would relax the prescriptive nature of Regulation S-K items 101 (description of the business) and 105 (risk factors).

Companies Finding it More Expensive to Become a Unicorn
It is now more expensive to become a unicorn in the U.S. than ever before, with the median sum raised prior to the status-conferring round soaring to $126.1 million in the first half of this year, says a report. In addition to a stable initial round of financing, the median unicorn financing round has held relatively steady for years now, shifting between $130 million and $175 million since 2015.

Investors Pour Record Funding into AI, Mental Health Startups
Investment in healthcare artificial intelligence startups and companies focused on mental health and wellness soared in the second quarter as both sectors hit funding highs, according to a new report from technology market intelligence company CB Insights. Per the report, healthcare AI companies raised $864 million while mental health and wellness companies raised $321 million across 26 deals in the second quarter of 2019.

Global Fintech Fundraising Declined 29% in First Half of 2019
Global fundraising for fintech turned sluggish in the first half of this year, according to data from CB Insights analyzed by Accenture. Specifically, investments were down by 29 percent at $22 billion in the six months ended June 30 compared to $31.2 billion in the same period in 2018.

Companies with More Women Execs Perform Better in Stock Market
Companies with better representation of women in their workforce and their senior ranks see better share-price returns than those who don't, according to new research. Morgan Stanley evaluated 1,875 companies by four metrics: the percentages of women who are board members, executives, managers and employees.
