Experts Expect M&A Activity to Stay Strong in 2018, Survey Finds
A significant majority of transaction professionals predict that M&A activity will accelerate in 2018. Eighty-three percent of those who responded to the Thomson Reuters Dealmakers Sentiment Survey said they expect deal volume to rise, with 49 percent anticipating an increase of five to 25 percent, and 34 percent of respondents expecting an increase of 25 percent or higher.

Investors Showered Private Equity Funds With $701B in 2017 Alone
Since 2013, private equity firms have been on a fundraising tear, raising more capital in the past five years than during any other five-year period in history. A recent report from Bain & Company showed that private equity funds attracted nearly $3.2 trillion in investor commitments over the last half-decade, with $701 billion raised in 2017 alone.

Settlement Dollars From Securities Class Actions Declined in 2017
Total settlement dollars from securities class actions fell dramatically in 2017, even as the number of settlements remained steady. According to a new report by Cornerstone Research, Securities Class Action Settlements -- 2017 Review and Analysis, the total value of securities class action settlements approved by courts in 2017 was $1.5 billion -- the second-lowest amount since 2008 -- and a substantial drop from $6.1 billion in 2016.

U.S. employers sharply ramped up their demand for workers in January, advertising 6.3 million jobs at the end of the month, the most on records dating back 17 years. The number of people hired ticked up and fewer Americans quit in January compared with the previous month.
