Chris Magill Named to Columbus Business First 2022 40 Under 40 Class

Ice Miller Economic Development Director Chris Magill has been named to the Columbus Business First’s 2022 40 Under 40 list.

Magill works with both public and private sectors to achieve growth strategies through corporate expansion consulting and government strategic planning at the state, regional, and local levels. His role as Economic Development Director requires him to work closely with Ice Miller attorneys in a number of practice areas, including, the Technology, Public and Private Partnerships, Bond Financing, Broadband, Brownfield & Environmental Remediation, Government Law, Municipal Finance, Real Estate and Tax Law. Through these collaborative efforts, Magill provides end-to-end strategies for clients.

Since 1993, Columbus Business First has recognized Central Ohio’s young talent through the annual 40 Under 40 program. Each year, the 40 honorees, who are under the age of 40, are judged on their outstanding career achievements and community service. Magill and his fellow honorees will be celebrated at an awards dinner on May 26.

“Chris has been and will continue to be a major contributor to the City of Columbus and Columbus Region at large for years to come,” said Catherine Strauss, an Ice Miller partner and Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Columbus office. “I am looking forward to seeing his impact as a practitioner and leader continue to evolve.”

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Magill served as the executive director of the Ohio Tax Credit Authority for the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD). In this role, Magill managed more than $100 million in business tax programs annually to foster job creation through business expansion and attraction projects in Ohio. This included Ohio’s flagship business tax credit programs, the Job Creation Tax Credit (JCTC), Job Retention Tax Credit (JRTC), and the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit (OMPTC).

Magill donates his time and talent to several organizations, including the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA), where he is an instructor for its economic development certification program’s capstone course. He also helps graduate students at The Ohio State University’s Knowlton School of Architecture prepare for the Urban Land Institute’s annual Hines Student Competition and serves on the board of directors for the Ohio Statewide Development Corporation.

Additionally, Magill is passionate about cancer research and is annually involved in Pelotonia, a two-day bike ride that raises money for cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Magill also participates in Ice Miller’s annual Day of Service and serves on the firm’s Columbus Pride Week Planning Committee.
