Freedom Smith Named 2019 LCLD Fellow
Ice Miller LLP has chosen
Freedom Smith, a partner in the Firm’s Environmental Group, to be a member of the 2019 class of Fellows, a landmark program created by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) to identify, train and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.
“This is a singular honor for Freedom,” said Steve Humke, chief managing partner of Ice Miller. “She joins a select group of experienced attorneys from diverse backgrounds who have been recognized for their potential as leaders.”
The LCLD Fellows Program, according to LCLD President Robert J. Grey, Jr., offers participants “a year-long, in-depth program devoted to relationship-building, in-person training, peer group projects and extensive contact with LCLD’s top leadership and the best teachers in the business.”
As a partner in the Firm’s Environmental Group, Freedom works in the areas of regulatory compliance and risk management, environmental law, natural resources and sustainability law, agricultural law, environmental and toxic tort litigation, procurement, and general litigation. Freedom’s clients are involved in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, real estate and construction.
Freedom joins a select group of experienced Ice Miller attorneys from diverse backgrounds who have been recognized for their leadership potential in recent years. Partner Isaac Colunga was a 2018 LCLD Fellow, and attorney Charles Bush was a 2018 LCLD Pathfinder.
Founded in 2009, LCLD is a growing organization of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are personally committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession. The LCLD Fellows Program, which has trained more than 1,600 mid-career attorneys since 2011, is one of LCLD’s most important initiatives. For more information, visit
