Ice Miller Announces Inaugural Class of Racial Justice Fellows
Ice Miller LLP is pleased to announce its inaugural class of Racial Justice Fellows. They are Joshua Duffy-Cooper, a Howard University School of Law first-year law student; Emma Robinson, a University of Michigan Law School first-year law student; and Shubham Shah, a J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University first-year law student.
The Fellowship is awarded annually to highly motivated first-year law students from a racially underrepresented group who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to racial justice, diversity and equity in their communities.
The fellows will participate in Ice Miller’s summer associate program and have the opportunity to work on racial justice matters during the summer program and through a paid, school-year clerkship. Fellows will also receive professional coaching throughout law school and be eligible to receive a $10,000 stipend if they accept an offer to return to the firm for a paid 2L summer associate position.
Created in May 2020, the Ice Miller Racial Justice Task Force works to amplify the legal rights and voices of people and communities of color, and to create an environment where opportunities in and access to the legal, social, and economic systems are equitable.”
Access and opportunity are two of the biggest hurdles facing people of color pursuing a career in law. The fellowship program is one of the many efforts undertaken by Ice Miller to provide greater opportunities and support for students of color.
“The goal behind the program is to do our part as a firm to ensure that more minority law students successfully make their way through law school and have an opportunity for a successful career in law,” said
Matthew Miller, Ice Miller partner and chair of the Ice Miller Racial Justice Task Force.
“This scholarship is a tangible way our firm can use its resources and influence to help students of color in law schools and ultimately advance the cause of racial justice in our communities,” said Ice Miller partner
Michael Tooley, a member of the Racial Justice Task Force and professional coach.
