Ice Miller Welcomes Tax Partner Caitlin Podbielski

Ice Miller LLP is pleased to announce that Caitlin Podbielski has joined the firm as a partner in its Tax-Exempt Practice Group. She will be based in the firm’s Chicago office.

With an educational background in health care law and practical experience advising health systems and providers, Podbielski has a robust practice working with medical professional associations for a variety of specialty and subspecialty providers. She regularly advises such clients on matters involving corporate governance, state and federal tax exemption, third-party contract negotiation and enforcement, member and chapter disputes, and corporate transactions including incorporation, reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions. She also counsels member organizations on advocacy communications and strategies, as well as the development and administration of professional conduct and disciplinary programs. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Caitlin to the firm,” said partner Gina Giacone, who chairs the firm’s Tax Exempt Organizations practice.  “Her experience and will greatly enhance our services and capabilities that we provide to our nonprofit, tax exempt and our health care clients.”

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Podbielski was a partner at an international law firm where advised clients from all industries on state and federal privacy law compliance, enforcement and breach response. She also has assisted several professional societies in developing, implementing and administering clinical data registry programs compliant with privacy and clinical research regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as amended by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) and the Common Rule. In addition to compliance, Podbielski assists clients in vendor and participant contracting matters, clinical measure development and licensing, and qualified registry (QR) and qualified clinical data registry (QCDR) requirements as well as Merit-Based Incentive Program (MIPS) regulations. 

Podbielski is a member of ASAE, having served on the planning committee for the annual Association Law Symposium in Chicago from 2016 through 2018, as well as a member of the American Society of Medical Association Counsel.  She is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law and Xavier University.
