Lacy and Patricia Johnson Recognized as 2018 IU Partners in Philanthropy

Ice Miller LLP is proud to congratulate partner Lacy Johnson and his wife Patricia Johnson for being named Indiana University and IU Foundation 2018 Partners in Philanthropy. In a ceremony on June 7, IU President Michael A. McRobbie and IU Foundation President Daniel C. Smith recognized exceptional leaders whose service and contributions helped impact the university’s future in long-lasting ways with one of four awards.

Lacy and Patricia received the Cornerstone Award. The honor recognizes individuals whose partnership, volunteerism and generosity have been imperative to the success of a single IU philanthropic initiative for a campus, program or school.

“Lacy and Patty lead by example and commit time, money and personal resources to serve others and the Indianapolis community,” said Steve Humke, chief managing partner of Ice Miller. “We are very pleased to see their generous efforts recognized with this prestigious award.”

The Johnsons are long-time supporters of IU and have been instrumental in the increased emphasis on diversity, equity and multicultural affairs at the university. In 2017, they established the Johnson Chair for Diversity and Leadership to lead diversity efforts and enhance the cultural climate on campus. Lacy and Patricia have also supported underrepresented populations through the Lacy M. Johnson Scholarship at the McKinney School of Law and the Johnson Family Scholars at the Lilly School of Philanthropy. In 2018, the couple received IU’s Laurel Pin distinction, honoring their lifetime donations to the university.

In addition, Lacy is a supporting member of IU’s Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council, a founding member of IU’s Black Philanthropy Circle and an active member of the IU Foundation Board of Directors. He is also involved with the IUPUI Board of Advisors and the McKinney School of Law Board of Visitors. In 2014, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award by the IU Alumni Association. Patricia is also passionately involved in the Indianapolis community and previously served as president of the Assistance League of Indianapolis.

Lacy Johnson graduated from IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1981 and is a life-long resident of Indiana. He is a partner in the Firm’s Public Affairs and Gaming Group.
