EPA Seeks Comments on Its Draft Lead Strategy and Changes Made Due to the Recent Infrastructure Law

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking public comment until March 16, 2022, on its draft Strategy to Reduce Lead Exposures and Disparities in U.S. Communities (Lead Strategy) based on changes made due to the recently signed Infrastructure Law. The draft Lead Strategy lays out EPA and government wide approaches to strengthen public health protections, address legacy lead contamination for communities with the greatest exposures, and promote environmental justice. The EPA has stated that the ultimate goal of this strategy is to reduce lead exposures from all sources in the most impacted communities across the country.

The EPA will be holding virtual listening sessions in each of its ten regions from February to early March 2022. These Zoom webinars will provide the public with an opportunity to provide verbal input on this draft national strategy. Each session will focus on lead issues impacting that specific area of the country. The listening session for EPA Region 5 will be February 17th at 6 p.m. CST.  Registration for this session can be found here.
