Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: COVID-19 Causes CFPB To Extend Comment Period Relating to Proposed Rules
On March 20, 2020, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released its annual report to Congress regarding the FDCPA.
Link: CFPB's Annual Report on FDCPA. Simultaneously, the CFPB announced an extension of the public comment period for its Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking implementing the FDCPA. The Supplemental Notice proposes to require debt collectors to make certain disclosures when collecting time-barred debts. The comment period was set to close on May 4, 2020; the extension allows comments through
June 5, 2020.
