On April 20, 2021, a Hennepin County, Minnesota jury convicted ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin of second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter for killing George Floyd in May 2020. While the jury’s decision to hold ex-Officer Chauvin accountable brings some justice for Mr. Floyd’s family and friends, it does not negate the urgent need for our society to put an end to fatal police violence and enact reforms that dismantle systemic racism in policing, protect the integrity of our criminal justice system and ensure equality and justice for Black lives. As a Firm, we will continue to work to ensure that our Black colleagues and other colleagues of color are supported and can thrive. We will also continue to use our time, talent and resources through our Racial Justice Task Force and our commitment to the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance to help create constructive solutions that root out racism in our communities and achieve shared goals of equality and fairness. No other outcome is acceptable, and our work will not be done until that is true.
Ice Miller created a Racial Justice Task Force to focus our efforts on fighting for racial equity in our communities. Please visit the Racial Justice Task Force webpage to learn more.
