Allyson Emley is an associate in Ice Miller’s Litigation Practice. She has experience in civil litigation with an emphasis on medical malpractice and commercial litigation in state and federal court.

Before joining Ice Miller, Allyson was an associate with an Indianapolis-based litigation firm. In this role, she represented physicians, surgeons, physician extenders, physician groups and hospitals in defending medical malpractice claims. She independently managed a large volume of medical malpractice claims, which included drafting medical review panel submissions, conducting client interviews and case assessments, budgeting, completing written discovery and depositions and drafting and arguing motions in state court, among other responsibilities. Allyson also represented businesses and business owners in pursuing and defending civil disputes in state and federal court. Her experience in this area included completing depositions, written discovery and e-discovery; evaluating potential liability and exposure for purposes of settlement analysis; and drafting motions in limine, motions to exclude and jury instructions in preparation for trial, among other duties.

Allyson also worked for the Indiana State Department of Health as a staff attorney. She practiced administrative and civil litigation for the Divisions of Acute Care, Long-Term Care, Environmental Public Health, HIV Medical Services and Children with Special Needs Health Care Services. Allyson also assisted with litigation relating to the certification of Certified Nurse Aides and Home Health Aides. She engaged in statutory interpretation regarding agency compliance and saw administrative rules through the promulgation process. She served as the primary attorney for the Communicable Disease, HIV/STD and Office of Women’s Health program areas.

After law school, Allyson also spent time as a volunteer attorney for the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society where she assisted clients in need of civil and family law advice and attended child custody and divorce hearings in civil court.

Allyson earned her juris doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 2010. During law school, she was a member of the University of Louisville Law Review. She served as vice president of The Federalist Society and was invited to become an Academic Fellow, tutoring for lower division students.

In 2007, Allyson graduated, cum laude, from Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in Spanish. During undergrad, she served as president of the Butler Political Science Association, volunteered with the Exodus Refugee/Immigration Inc., was a research assistant for Dr. David S. Mason’s The End of the American Century and attended the Young Global Leaders Summit: U.S.-Islamic World Relations upon nomination.

Allyson is licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
