Donald Slowik is an attorney in the Labor, Employment and Immigration Practice Group.
 
Don has more than 35 years of experience with complex and challenging employment-based immigration filings for U.S. and international companies and foreign entrepreneurs and investors. He has a deep understanding of employer needs and HR considerations, and is skilled in statutory interpretation, having served as legal counsel in the Ohio legislature.
 
Don takes a creative, problem-solving approach to serving the needs of clients, whether they are hiring a recently graduated foreign student in the United States or transferring critical personnel from abroad. He frequently guides business clients through the process of obtaining temporary visas and permanent immigration status for prospective employees. Additionally, he counsels employers on E-Verify and I-9 compliance and defends them during Department of Labor or Department of Homeland Security investigations, including investigations of immigration-related discrimination claims. 
 
Don regularly shares his expertise with colleagues and other professionals. He has written on the topic of immigration law for Labor and Employment News, published by the Ohio State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section. He has also published immigration-related pieces in Business Finance Magazine, Columbus Business First and the Columbus Bar Association’s Bar Briefs Magazine, among others.
 
Don has presented on the topic of alternatives to H-1B visas at the Annual Fall Conference of the Ohio Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and has spoken on immigration topics at seminars and meetings held by the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, the Employers Research Association, the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio and the Ohio Association of Realtors.
